Process of Becoming a Member

Whether you are joining with years of experience or are a new recruit the initial steps are the same. Depending on when you apply, applicants will hear from us immediately and can expect the process can take up to 2 months.

Complete Initial Application

Our short form will be review by our recruitment and membership committee and someone will connect you about options and opportunities.
Background Check

Applicants must pass a state and federal background check.
Meet & Greet

Typically every 3rd Tuesday of the month our membership committee meets with our perspective applicants.
Physical

Applicants must pass a physical set up by the department, no charge to the applicant.
Becoming a Member

Once all steps are completed an applicant will be approved and accepted into our department as a probationary member.

After you are accepted by the membership committee you will be:

Welcomed in at our monthly department meeting, introduced to all of our officers, given gear, and connected with our probie training committee to set up a training schedule.
Initial training
If you are joining as a recruit with no prior experience you will begin our in-house training typically given in the months of July and January and begin your firefighter 1 course given at the Suffolk County Fire Academy or for EMS personnel beginning your EMT or Paramedic course.
During or after your course requirements probationary recruits are expected to participate in department training, work details, special events, and most importantly respond to any alarms when available.
